We had a wonderful visit to Norfolk last week. What did I like most? It is a difficult choice between the breath-taking proportions of Palladian Holkham Hall, the imagination of the Arts and Crafts house Voewood, and the gentle atmosphere of Sandringham (more middle class than regal). But that would be unfair to Ickworth House, Blickling Hall, Norwich’s Cathedral, Museum and Art Gallery, and the

Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts that we also visited. Then there was the outstanding skill and sensitive care at the National Trust’s only specialist Textile Conservation Studio near Holt, where we saw them repairing and restoring tapestries from Knole House. I was truly impressed. Thank you Wendy Collett for organising it. Even the weather was good.

It is my great pleasure to announce that Frank Myers has agreed to put his name forward to stand as Chairman when my three-year term ends at the AGM in September, subject to your vote. You will see we have put Frank’s name on the new membership cards, in the expectation that you will agree. Renewing your membership is simple. Pay £37 at the desk and pick up your membership card and new programme leaflet at the May or June lectures. Failing that, send your cheque to Wynne Gifford, Membership Secretary. We may need some helpers to deal with the distribution on the day. Please come forward to help.

You will see from the new programme leaflet that we are experimenting with aspects of the new brand and imagery that NADFAS is introducing. Your committee will put forward a formal recommendation on our Society’s name and identity for you to vote on at the AGM.
